Not only that, but the expense is ridiculous. If I don't like a song, I can skip it, and if I really like it, I can cause it to play more often with a push of a button. Satellite radio has less talking, but I didn't like any of the stations - they are too specialized, and not any of the stations are ones I could listen to for any length of time. I was on the fence for a long time. Even with the occasional ad, there is less talking than my husband gets with his overpriced satellite radio. It refreshes the stations while it recharges the battery.
It plays only the music I like, and it's a different mix every day.
An MP3 player would give me the songs I like, if I can afford to buy them all, but setting up a play list is time consuming, and if I want to change my play list later, well, only the most expensive players will let you do that without starting over from scratch.Slacker radio is like a dream come true for me.
Who really needs more than 25 radio stations.
I love radio, but I hate the endless talking.
Yes, you can buy the newer model for a LOT more money, but why.
In addition to the excellent stations already available, I can customize a station for any mood I'm in.
There are no monthly fees, and I can take it anywhere.
The touch screen is easy to read and use, and I love seeing pics of my favorite artists and the album covers.
I can't think of a single thing that I don't like about my Slacker portable.
That is a neat feature too. I enjoy my Slacker G2 player. One other thing that I found interesting is when a song is playing on one of the stations, you can read the artist infromation and look at the album art for the song that is currently playing. I like the fact that yes, even though it has pre-programmed stations, you can go to their site and add your own and customize htem. Plus I also like the fact that you can create your own playlists to listen to. Plus it will show you the last songs that it played while on the station you're listening to. I'd even buy this as a gift for someone.
I was concerned about how it would work with my Mac. The selection doesn't all sound the same. Slacker doesn't do this. It goes with me in my car so I can have great tunes. If I put in a song or band it finds other stuff I may like.
I have been using the basic account as it is free. The signal is said to be strong my my computer's software and I have used my palm and an alternate computer up here without problem. I also put another router to rebroadcast the wifi up here. It is very easy and I like the variety of music it puts together.
I use the website to customize my stations and then I have my Slacker use wifi for updates. The stations are customizable from online. The wifi is very weak. I have it set to download a few "stations". With Slacker I am not stuck without music when away from my computer. In the past I have found that custom internet stations play music that all sounds alike rather than playing other things I may like if I like a song or band.
I now toss it on the steps when it needs to charge and refresh as it works without a hitch in that location. I love that it caches music. I love my Slacker. So far the small number of skips hasn't bothered me at all. After all, I can't skip songs on my car radio. Now for the few bad things that made this a 4/5 rather than a 5/5.
I can't sync from my bedroom even though I can use my computer up there.
I am not living off of a cloud.
Also, the battery does not last anywhere near the claimed time.
It is fine.
I am thinking that 5 hours was the best so far.
It just fits together.
I do not want the fees associated with a data plan.
That didn't improve reception any.
If you use wifi without a charger on it will kill the battery even faster.
I think this product is GREAT. I did a 'Factory Reset' and in a few minutes I was back to where I left off. I waited until I owned this product for more than a month before writing the review- I was floored the first few days so I wanted to wait until I became an regular user of the product to allow for potential problems/bugs etc.Waiting to write my review did not change the way I feel about this product. You even have an option to choose a comedy channel which is great to pass the time.I had one small issue with this player and it occurred when I tried to play MP3s that I myself loaded onto the Slacker. Either way, it soulds great (CD Quality)I listen to mine all day at work and charge at night. I can't speak for the customer service because I have had no reason to contact them.I work at a location where streaming audio is not allowed and this product has become my best friend. It made me think I ruined the player because I tried a few different things and I was not able to bring back my channels.
They are up to date without a doubt.Great for outside too. I read many of these reviews and I think the problem lies with expectation rather than product performance. The reset worked like a charm. As far as the channels themselves, I couldn't be happier with the music libraries. Once connected to your PC, you can visit the Slacker website to add/remove channels to customize your player. I believe I had a file that this player wasn't used to seeing (perhaps a corrupt one). Simply hook it up to some MP3 speakers or your receiver at home. I connect to Wifi in my house to refresh the stations about every other day. This is a great product- for under $100, what a bargain.Take my advice and give it a shot.
I remember reading about this when it was first coming out and thought it was cool but didn't bite because it was a little pricey. The only issues I have with the slacker radio stations is that you can not unfavorite a song on the player after you have made it a favorite. My only other issue with the player is that it is not a great mp3 player. Before I bought the player I listened to slacker.com for a month or so and loved it. On the plus side the Slacker radio stations are so good I rarely use the mp3s and also you can put any file type in the mp3 storage area so you can use it for just general storage if you want. All told I think this a great gadget if you aren't sure check out their website and listen for free at slacker.com if you like that then you basically are getting the same thing but portable. Personally I think it beats the snot out of pandora. Now that they have a G2 out the first gen player is cheap I got my 8gb for well under a $100 brand new. You have to sync it then make the change on the website by editing the station.
So I have had the player for about 2 months now with very few problems I got it to sync with my wireless netgear router no problem thats usually how I refresh the stations but I did get the PC connection working fine but you do have to fiddle with the routers IP settings so the player doesn't conflict. I would try to update the player to newest firmware first and try wireless if that works no need to do the pc connection. Album art doesn't work, no sorting options, also have a had a few files get corrupted and stop playing and I had to reload them. I have many other mp3 players that have and will continue to collect dust while I listen the my slacker every day.Oh also if you were wondering about the touch strip it is basically useless unless you mount it in your car then maybe I could see it being better than the side controls but if you have it in you pocket or laying around somewhere it is way to easy to hit something on accident and change the station or skip the song.
